To go through life whole by Elamen To go through life whole by Elamen
My submission for the Wacom dreams contest.

My dream is for everyone to be able to go through life as a whole and complete person.

So many times we feel little parts of ourselves break off and fracture, because of struggles with ourselves or with outside forces. I wish that everyone could keep hold of every facet of themselves, despite the problems that may arise in life.

Had two ideas for this contest but had only enough time to do one. Oh well, a dream of world domination will have to be postponed!

The ocean symbolizes the struggles in life, and the two figures on the side are in danger of being consumed by the sea. The center figure is directing them on towards safer waters.

GAH wish I had one more day to make this super awesome!

Mats: Painter 11, Photoshop CS4
Time: LONG.. not counting the line art, about 25+ hrs

Wow, very beautiful, so many colours! I like the reference to the storm and struggle of the romantic era through replicating it in the powerful sky, and the way you have merged the dresses into the ocean. Great message! How did you go with teh contest?

I really like this. I don't know if i want to see a little bit more refining on the sea or not. I kinda like the loose, obvious brushstrokes.

But I definately love the girls, and the colour scheme and the movement. That sky is beautifully Turner-esque. Good luck with the competition, you're one of my favourites to win.

wow 25+ hours, no wonder it looks so nice. I love the way you make their dresses flow, its like they're wearing water themselves almost. Great job. Awesome colors.

Sweet thanks! That means the intended effect was achieved! Tried to make it seem like their dresses were turning into water. Aah, I wish I had more time to spend on this.

Thanks! Didn't want to make the painting seem too sad. Wanted to show more of a "light at the end of the tunnel" kind of thing.

I guess it's okay. I liked it better when the clothes were more see-through. ♥

Drinks on the weekend to celebrate being done! ♥♥♥

Um, see "sarcasm." She showed me a WIP so I was referencing when the clothes weren't actually done.

This is an AMAZING entry and there's no way it doesn't make it to the semi-finals AT LEAST.

Interesting use of the theme. Certainly eye catching from the swarm of thumbnails, it really does stand out. Indeed it is very painterly and effective.

Best of luck.

When I browse through the entries this one just catches me. I love how it looks almost like an actual oil painting. I love the colors in it, and I love how well you've painted the human body - like there is more there than just flesh. I hope to paint people like that someday! :)

Thanks! I was trying to go for an "old masters, renaissance" kind of feel, hopefully its close. Painting people just takes a lot of practice. I know I still have room to improve, it's a constant learning process.
