Lol ok this is totally random but it just popped in my head now. The basilisk is probably mad because it's going; "So, what house am I in huh?" and the sorting hat whimpered "R..aven..claw..?" then the basilisk got all mad and was probably like "NOO! I'M in Slytherin! Put me in Slytherin you useless hat!!" i dunno something I made up ;P
